Timing your E-Mail Marketing

This week - I hosted my first webinar on ……E-Mail Marketing.  One of the topics I touched on was timing your e-mails.

In marketing, as in life, timing is everything.  With email marketing, timing can make the difference between e-mails being read or recycled.  Everyone has their own schedules for handling e-mail, but I have a few general rules for when it is best to send e-mail messages.

If your target market is consumers and you are sending business to consumer e-mails, your best bet is to e-mail them Friday through Sunday when they have the most leisure time.  If you are sending weekday e-mails to consumers the better time is between 5pm and 8pm.

When  sending business to business e-mail, however, you will want your e-mails to arrive between 9:30 AM and 3:00 PM, Tuesdays through Thursdays.  E-mail open rates are higher on these rates than on Mondays and Fridays.

Keep in mind the time zone of your clients.  You may be even need to segment your clients by time zone, and even if you are sending the same e-mail, send them at different times.
