Managing Your Facebook Contacts for Business

As your list of Facebook Friends grows, you will want to take some steps to better manage these contacts. 

Friend Lists

Within Facebook, use the Friend List feature to Segment Friends.  Consider how you want to distinguish your Friends.  At the top level, I like something along the line of

  • Family and Friends
  • School Friends
  • Professional Network
  • Local

You can have up to 100 Friends Lists, so the sky is the limit as to what level you take this.  I prefer to keep it simple.  Use these segments or Lists to provide more relevant content to specific Friends.  Additionally, you can adjust your privacy setting differently for Friends Lists.

Export Your Facebook Contacts

You can now use yahoo to export your Facebook contacts.  If you do not already have a yahoo account, it is free and easy to set up.  Yahoo will give you the opportunity to import your Facebook contacts.  Once the contacts are in yahoo, you can easily export them to a .csv file.
